青年段志高来到小桥车站学习锻炼。小桥站全体员工在站长“老解决”的带领下辛勤工作，并和附近公社亲如一家。但是，段志高热情有余、经验不足，常好心办坏事。这让即将退休的老站务员“老怀表”看不过去。站长“老解决”生产队妇女队长胖大嫂有心相爱，但却不好意思主动表白。扳道员“小发明”和在生产队的姐姐铁英暗地筹划利用河水建立一个小发电站，段志高积极参与计划。生产队在清理仓库时发现了一个废弃的发电机，老站长与胖队长商谈此事。“秦广播”误听了老站长的梦话后安排老站长与胖队长会面，两人虽然话不对题，却终于明白了对方的心意。小发电站发现成功，“老解决”和胖队长终成眷属，双喜临门，大家欢呼庆祝。“老怀表”看到年轻人的力量，觉得可以放心从岗位上退下了。

1905年，赣西煤矿工人遭受血腥镇压，矿工们忍气吞声，过着牛马不如的生活。1921年，中国共产党成立后，青年雷焕觉根据党的指示，来此办起夜校。贺青山、陈振云、郑海生等工人都在夜校接受了马克思主义的启蒙教育。易猛子父子都是挖煤工，受苦很深，但是父亲易老倌由于此前的反抗均告失败，非常灰心，猛子只相信自己的拳头，不愿到夜校接受宣传教育。猛子结婚那一天，矿上发生瓦斯爆炸，矿头们不顾井下工人死活，勒令封井。猛子等与矿警、把头后被捕。张老耿死在井里，猛子的妻子秋英被逼自杀。雷焕觉将矿上的惨剧在报纸上揭露，矿头们不得不放出猛子。雷焕觉启发大家，矿工们团结起来组织工人俱乐部。在全国澎湃高涨的工潮鼓舞下，矿工们因为矿头调军队逮捕雷焕觉，愤而发动了矿山有史以来从未有过的大罢工，并戳穿了矿头的诡计，取得罢工胜利。

Forget EastEnders, as pioneers of working class chic the early Pulp videos epitomise Shoreditch living, from cramped rooms to charity shop glam; while the later videos, with bigger budgets, add to Pulp's classic kitsch values. The most inspired of the 15 on offer here has to be "The Bad Cover Version", which appears to assemble the cast of Stars in their Eyes. Beyond the videos and live performances are selections of home movies. Included are the documentaries "Do You Remember the First Time", focusing on losing your virginity, and "This is Hardcore" which, unsurprisingly, centres on the merits of porn and freedom. "TV Madness" is a beautiful montage of crazy TV promotions that shows the price of fame is appearing on Going Live. "Home Movies" offers a look at the real lives of Pulp; "Sheffield Bands" offers a glimpse at Pulp before they were famous while "Catfield" is possibly be the most bizarre children's programme on the planet. Using inspired editing techniques and sceneography, it's clear this all comes from the minds of Jarvis and co, a band who simply refuse to conform to normal stereotypes, instead making up their own rules as they go along. This is one for anyone who's been young, misunderstood and dabbled in the art scene.
